From the minutes of the Farnhill Parish Council meeting held on 10th June 1920: Washing of Motors: On the motion of Councillor Wrathall seconded by Councillor Latham, the Clerk was instructed to write the Skipton Rural District Council asking them to take steps to require certain persons to cease from washing Motor Cars at the well at Farnhill Spout. Someone was using the Shelly Well - near Spout House in High Farnhill - to wash their car. But who ? The minutes don't say and it's difficult to imagine who in the village would have owned a car in 1920. (It's thought that the first car at Farnhill Hall wasn't acquired until after the arrival of their chauffeur, Herman Lofthouse, in 1928.) Does anyone have any idea ?
